TekAccess Trend Analysis

The following screenshots are taken directly from TekAccess that is provided with the TekVet Health Monitoring System for livestock. The trends are taken from actual animals.
Trend 1 – This trend shows an animal with a normal trend. The delta temperatures (daily temperature range from the high to the low at night) are a little more than 1 degree. The normal maximum temperatures are about 102 degrees. There is one peak at 103 degrees due to the stress of being inspected.
Trend 2 – This trend shows an animal with a fairly normal trend. The delta temperatures (daily temperature range from the high to the low at night) are about 2 degrees.
Trend 3 – This shows an animal that arrived at the facility ill. On arrival, the animal was initially treated with a broad range antibiotic. Starting on 11/11 that animal started to show signs of improvement. The delta temperatures (daily temperature range from the high to the low at night) are still more than normal with a 3 degree range. The maximum temperature remains higher than normal remaining at about 103 degrees
Trend 4 – This trend shows an animal that developed a high temperature shortly after arrival but following treatment on the 12th, the fever was significantly reduced. The delta temperatures (daily temperature range from the high to the low at night) remain high following treatment, but the maximum temperatures were reduced from over 105 degrees to about 103 degrees.
You will probably want to keep an eye on this animal and one important feature in the TekVet System that will let you do that is the Under Observation window, it segregates this animal from the rest of the heard for easy viewing, kind of like an electronic sick pen.
In addition to the Under Observation window, there is also the Log window. This window lets you easily see all past treatments for this particular animal.
As you become familiar with different trends and how your animals react to the different treatments, you and your veterinarian will be able to develop better, more effective protocols. You will know for the first time which particular medication is effective and which is not, and whether you want to continue to treat the animal before it dies.
Trend 5 – This trend shows an animal that has an increasing temperature trend. This is a perfect example of what the TekVet Health Monitoring System is designed for, catching illness sooner, allowing earlier treatment. This is an animal that was not identified visually as being ill, but TekVet is providing you a tool to indentify sick animals immediately.
The recommendation to treat is between you and your veterinarian. It will be important to develop protocols with your veterinarian so that as you see trends develop that indicate an animal is becoming ill, you can treat the animal before it becomes an overwhelming illness, resulting in weight loss, lowered quality grade, or even a total loss.
Trend 6 – This trend shows an animal that arrived at the facility ill. It was initially treated on arrival and retreated on 11/13. The treatment on 11/13 had a very good impact on the fever, reducing it from 106 degrees down to 102 degrees. The delta temperature (daily temperature range from the high to the low at night) however still remained high with a 3-4 degree variance.
Subsequent to these treatments the animal once again developed an increasing temperature trend from 11/15 to 11/18. The question now becomes, what do you do? Is the animal chronically ill? Will further treatment be cost effective? Would it be better to have this animal treated now rather than becoming a total loss?
Only when you are armed with real time temperature data from the TekVet System are you in a position to be able to weigh the options and make an informed decision.

Conclusions – The really amazing thing about this new technology is that it can provide indications of animal health several days before you would have through normally daily visual inspections. Having this early warning will have a major impact on reducing loss at your facility.
